Github Code Review Workflow

From github.com

I adopted GitHub’s Code Review and Pull Request workflow to keep code moving and the main branch green.

GitHub reports 43M+ pull requests merged across the platform.

GitHub reports 82M+ commits pushed across the platform.

GitHub reports 10M+ new repositories created on the platform.

  • I use stacked pull requests to break large changes into smaller, connected PRs.

Andy Merryman, CTO at TED, noted that “by breaking large changes into small, dependency‑ordered pieces, review happens in smaller logical chunks—not just faster pull request reviews, but more accurate ones.”

  • I enable a merge queue so ready PRs are re‑checked against the latest main before merging.
  • I configure rulesets organization‑wide to enforce branch protection and linear history.
  • I triage reviews using the pull‑request inbox view.
  • I invoke GitHub Copilot during review for AI‑generated summaries and suggestions.
