Familiar Stocks Over Index Funds

From x.com/ariesnotebook

I have contrasted investing in companies I know with index funds, which can include many companies I have no idea about. On February 15, 2025, I said of the companies being discussed, “They’re great companies. I know them pretty well.” I did not specify which companies “they” referred to. This view connects with my buffett school investing principles.

On February 15, 2025, I listed Alibaba stock, Shopify, NVDIA, Tesla, PayPal, and meta in a reply. I wrote, “Yeah, then some Alibaba stock, Shopify, NVDIA, Tesla, PayPal, and meta.” The post does not clarify what “then” refers to or whether I was describing holdings, planned purchases, or something else; I gave no amounts.

On December 30, 2025, I reacted with 😂 to a post by @alexandraandnyc about wealth managers putting money in an index fund. The reaction alone does not state my opinion about wealth managers or index funds.

Buying companies you know and understand and focusing on your business/income is probably a better strategy. I stated this view on May 20, 2026, while responding to @BullTheoryio’s comparison of a reported day-trading result with a hypothetical S&P 500 investment. The trader’s age, results, and comparison figures were claims in @BullTheoryio’s post, not independently established facts in my statement.
