Ecommerce Data As An Asset

I’m more bullish on ecommerce in light of the data-brokerage boom for AI labs. I see a possibility that unique data gathered by ecommerce brands could become an asset in its own right.

I think exiting an ecommerce brand is notoriously hard, even though brands can scale hugely at slim margins. That makes selling data separately an interesting possible alternative to exiting the brand.

I’m speculating that unique ecommerce-brand data may become more valuable over time. I imagine owners might eventually sell that data to take chips off the table and receive a windfall cash-out without selling their brands; I did not describe how such a sale would work.

In my speculative scenario, ecommerce brand owners could sell their data while retaining 100% of their brands.
