Consumer Psychology Drives Buying

From x.com/ariesnotebook

On February 10, 2026, I said that more people doing "identity" shopping is one reason I think Ecommerce on Shopify is only gonna keep growing.

I described identity shopping as buying from stores because the stores fit their identity, rather than necessarily because of price or quality.

I notice that purchasing choices can reflect convenience, emotion, family priorities, and spending power. These posts capture my observations, not quantified research or evidence about how all consumers behave.

On December 27, 2024, I wondered how much efficiency Target unlocked by letting customers check out and bag their own purchases. I observed that many people are willing to do this and prefer it, and that many big stores are doing it now; I gave no efficiency estimate or supporting evidence. This is one example of how convenience and preference may shape buying experiences.

On October 17, 2025, I argued that people may say they want to support American brands, but that someone with a family has a primary duty to provide the best quality of life possible. I suggested that, after a certain point, people will pick the best-value options regardless of origin. I did not define that point or what counts as best value.

On October 21, 2025, I stated that people buy with emotion and justify with logic. I did not provide evidence or further context for this view, which connects to my notes on simple copy sells feelings.

On October 24, 2025, I replied to @MatijaLebo that the people being discussed like to shop and have more money than most people. The post does not make clear who “they” refers to, and gives no figures or supporting context.
