In early October 2026 I reflected on a habitual "future‑fix" mindset where I keep postponing present decisions and expenses to an imagined future self who will be richer, healthier, or calmer. I see this pattern across finance, career, health, and relationships, and I recognize that optimism is fine but the volume of unresolved present issues is a problem.
I accepted a lower salary at my startup because the equity would be worth a lot someday.
I kept spending because things would get better someday.
I took on more debt because one big event would take care of it someday.
After this promotion, I will spend more time at home.
After this project, I will look after my health.
After things calm down, I will have that difficult conversation.
I also note that there is nothing wrong with believing that life can get better, but every uncomfortable thing in the present had a very comfortable answer in the future.
This reflection connects to my earlier posts on debt mindset and communication choices, showing a broader theme of "future‑fix" across domains.
