I attended Startup Mahakumbh (2025‑04‑06) and captured several founder insights for D2C brands expanding internationally.

  • International B2B outreach in year 1 yields low conversion: Arjun Vaidya reported 115 queries with 0 conversions. Recommendation: de‑prioritize international B2B in the first year for D2C‑first brands.
  • Product quality is the baseline expectation for Western consumers: Bala Sarda noted that VAHDAM’s quality secured Oprah as a customer in 2018.
  • Early adoption of influencer/affiliate marketing can create momentum even before investors understand ROI: Aman Gupta described his company as “the first ones to try influencer/affiliate marketing when it wasn’t even a thing.”
  • Understanding sub‑cultures drives creative brand campaigns that stay ahead of competition: Aman Gupta emphasized mapping India’s many sub‑cultures and tailoring campaigns accordingly.
