Plans To Move To The Netherlands

From my notes

For a startup job, the main route is the Highly Skilled Migrant (kennismigrant) permit, and the employer must be an IND-recognised sponsor. The 2026 gross monthly salary thresholds, excluding 8% holiday allowance, are Under 30: €4,357; 30+: €5,942; reduced (recent graduates / orientation year): €3,122.

The employer files the application; decisions for recognised sponsors are often 1–2 weeks. After approval, I would collect the MVV in India at New Delhi, Mumbai, or Bangalore. Small startups may not yet be recognised sponsors because recognition costs time and money, so I should prefer one that already has recognition or is willing to obtain it.

Housing is in serious shortage, especially in Amsterdam, so I should start looking months before arrival. Temporary housing or a room may be a practical starting point, and I should budget for a deposit, first month’s rent, and agency fees.

The stated realistic 2026 one-bedroom rent ranges are Amsterdam centre/outer: €1,400–2,200; Rotterdam / Utrecht / Eindhoven: €1,100–1,600.

If I qualify as someone recruited from abroad with a salary above the norm, the 30% ruling provides 30% of salary tax-free for up to 5 years; from 1 Jan 2027 the rate drops to 27% for new starters. The content describes this as a strong reason Indians move to the Netherlands for tech and startup roles because it meaningfully increases net pay.

I must take out Dutch basic health insurance (basisverzekering) within 4 months of becoming a resident/worker; the stated cost is Within 4 months of becoming a resident/worker; ~€150–185/month.

I should register with the municipality (BRP) to get a BSN (citizen service number) and open a Dutch bank account for salary, rent, and insurance. Together with arranging health insurance, these are the practical foundations for establishing myself. The source also mentions a separate 1-year Startup Visa but cuts off while introducing its requirement (“needs a recognis…”), so its requirements are incomplete.

I am planning to move to the Netherlands.

As part of this plan, I want to work with a startup.

I want to establish myself over there.
