In my 2023‑04‑18 hiring interview for a mean‑stack software engineer, I was shocked to see candidates judge a startup’s scalability solely by its VC funding rounds.

Decision: I now prioritize evaluating candidates on profitability, revenue generation, team culture, and frugality rather than their assumptions about VC funding levels.

I asked myself: "Shouldn't a business responsibility always to be lean and nimble for sustainable profitable growth???"

Because its hard to quantify founder optionality and the metric is not that cool as funding!

Revenue with positive unit economics takes some time to reach first annual million dollar recurring revenue.
