Nonprofit Initiatives Transforming Indian Higher Education

From linkedin.com/in/puneetjindalisb

On 2018-03-04 05:53 UTC I announced the launch of #DataScienceDelhi, a non‑for‑profit initiative to provide high‑quality but low‑cost data science education by bringing University, Govt. and Industry together on a common platform to create a social impact. #BigData #AI https://lnkd.in/fhw5VCN

Decision: Move from ad‑hoc workshops to a structured university partnership model to achieve larger social impact and reach the future workforce in Tier‑2/3 cities.

Target ecosystem includes approx. 900 Universities across India to place the country on the global innovation map.

I continue delivering AI and Big Data workshops in academia and industry, now shifting to a partnership framework with universities, especially in Tier‑2/3 cities, while maintaining continuous student engagement for AI‑for‑social‑good initiatives.

On 2018-09-15 04:12 UTC I reached out for cloud‑service partners—AWS, Azure and GCP—to support a not‑for‑profit AI education initiative for Tier‑2/3 universities in Punjab, integrating AI into existing Big Data/Cloud curricula.

cloud_partners.requested = AWS, Azure, GCP (announced on 2018-09-15 04:12 UTC)

target_universities = Tier‑2/3 Punjab (designated on 2018-09-15 04:12 UTC)

I announced a guest lecture at Punjab Engineering College with the support from Rajesh Bhatia and Pratyusha Simharaju, featuring myself and Pulin Pathneja.

Microsoft Nonprofit Program provides free Microsoft 365 Education and up to $3 500 USD per year in Azure credits for qualifying education nonprofits.

Google for Nonprofits offers free Google Workspace for Education and $10 000 USD annual Google Cloud credits for eligible higher‑education nonprofits.

AWS Activate for Nonprofits provides up to $10 000 USD in AWS credits (plus an optional $5 000 USD bonus for organizations with >100 students).

Eligibility requires verified nonprofit status, a mission aligned with higher‑education, and proof of need. I advise applying to all three providers to stack credits where possible.

Request posted on 2018‑11‑26 03:50 UTC asking for access to productivity‑tool (email) and cloud‑credit offerings for higher‑education nonprofits.

Decision: choose the provider based on the specific tool‑set needed – Microsoft 365 for email/productivity, Google Workspace for existing Google services, AWS Activate for scalable cloud infrastructure. I also recommend applying to all three to maximize coverage.

Method: verify nonprofit status, register on each provider’s portal (Microsoft, Google, AWS), submit required documentation (IRS determination letter or equivalent, mission statement, usage plan), await approval (5‑10 business days), then activate services via the respective admin consoles.

Open questions: regional restrictions on AWS credits? renewal process after the first year? possibility of combining credits across providers? additional training resources offered by each provider for higher‑education nonprofits?

Eduwaive Foundation’s mission is to support new ideas and create businesses that support research, jobs and entrepreneurship by developing next‑gen labs in the college/school ecosystem.
