I noted that the TreeScope LiDAR dataset is “the first semantically segmented LiDAR dataset collected with robotic systems in agricultural environments.” Its primary objectives are “counting and mapping trees” and the dataset was contributed by Derek Cheng, Fernando Cladera, Ankit Prabhu, Xu Liu, Vijay Kumar, Reza Ehsani, and Pratik Chaudhari.
I am excited about the emerging role of agriculture robotics in tackling time‑consuming tasks such as planting, harvesting, fertilising, and detection. A recent paper from the National University of Singapore highlighted that computer‑vision technology is the common thread enabling perception‑driven action across a range of robotic platforms.
I will adopt computer‑vision as a core component for any agricultural robotics development because the paper identifies it as the pivotal technology that allows robots to see the world, understand it, and act on that understanding.
