Gold just had its worst week in over 4 months.
Spot gold fell below $4,000 an ounce last week, the first time since mid‑July, marking its steepest weekly decline in more than four months.
I decided to design Flamingo Money around a habitual daily‑habit of buying gold, because this approach avoids panic selling during sharp drops and historically outperforms in volatile markets.
Flamingo Money is built for the habitual investor who buys a fixed amount each day regardless of short‑term price swings.
Gold is down 26% from its January high.
Gold imports fell 58% this year.
ETFs alone pulled in over ₹2,500 crore in a single month recently.
Given the sharp price drop, the steep decline in physical imports, and the surge in gold‑ETF inflows, I conclude that founders should prioritize digital gold products—ETF‑style, tokenised gold, and easy‑purchase platforms—because the market is moving from bulk physical purchases to fractional, tradable formats.
On 2026‑10‑19 I compared gold prices and found that gold in India is about ₹19,000 more per 10 grams than in Dubai.
Exact price gap: ≈ ₹18,900 per 10 g (India > Dubai).
Target user (first‑time saver) contributes ≈ ₹50 per day, buying only a few grams per month – far below the 10 g arbitrage threshold.
Because arbitrage requires large, frequent purchases and travel costs, I decided not to focus product development on solving the India‑Dubai gold price gap.
Decision: do not prioritize the price‑arbitrage problem for the core “first‑time saver” segment.
