I am Nikhil Kamath, an Indian entrepreneur and investor. I co‑founded Zerodha, True Beacon, Gruhas, and The Foundery, and I host the “WTF is” podcast. My journey reflects a DIY mindset, early entrepreneurship, and a commitment to giving back.
My father was an executive at Canara Bank.
My mother ran her own event management company, did landscaping work (including for the Chinnaswamy Stadium) and played the veena.
I dropped out of school after 10th grade, and I have no formal degree.
One line we heard at home, mostly from my mother, was not to depend on anyone else for change.
Zerodha's about page still calls me an avid reader who likes a good game of chess.
In 2006 I became a sub-broker, and with Nithin Kamath started Kamath & Associates to manage public-market portfolios for high-net-worth clients.
In 2010 Nithin and I co-founded Zerodha, which brought the discount broking model to India.
I co-founded True Beacon (2020) and Gruhas (2021), started hosting the "WTF is" podcast in March 2024, and launched The Foundery with Kishore Biyani in December 2025.
