# Managing Risk Across Market Cycles

I see markets as cyclical, with bear markets significantly more dramatic than bull markets. My general risk-management principle is to avoid losing too much in bad times rather than trying to make the most in good times.

I captured a 2022-08-16 post advising people looking for stock tips to wait for the “Blue zone,” buy anything, and stick to Nifty constituents. It gives “Everything is cyclical” as its rationale, but does not define the Blue zone, explain how to identify it, or provide a stock-selection method beyond sticking to Nifty constituents. The post includes https://t.co/dBOROCfLtI; its contents are not available here. This advice is consistent with the general market-cycle framing on this page, but the capture does not establish investment results or a time horizon.

My investing priority is not losing too much in the bad times.

I cautioned against getting carried away if a bull run has lasted longer than usual while VIX is at a very low level. I gave no specific threshold, market action, or definition of “longer than usual”; the post pointed readers to Research @Investywise.

I said this perspective came from doing this every day for 19 years, without specifying what “this” referred to.
