Gaming And Sports Business

From x.com/nikhilkamathcio

On 2024-05-21, I repeated observations and questions about cricket fandom and franchise valuations in a post replying to @nikhilkamathcio; the same text also appeared in the quoted post. I recalled watching every cricket game India played with my family as a child, and celebrations when India beat Pakistan. I said many children I meet seem to talk about other sports and video games, while noting a bias of affluence. I asked whether cricket is fully priced in and whether one would go long or short cricket franchises at today’s valuations, but gave no recommendation or valuation. The post credited @FinFloww as research and linked to https://t.co/qx49SPOM91; the capture provides no research method or findings.

@nikhilkamathcio reflected that cricket had held his generation’s attention through playing, watching, and cheering, while games seemed to have replaced cricket for younger people. He said it had been intriguing to see how the gaming landscape evolved. The capture does not establish the standalone post’s author.

In the post attributed to @nikhilkamathcio, applications for The Gaming Fund were open, with an invitation to register for people building something in the industry—even if it was not a game. The post named @8bit_thug, @mittersain, @jokim1, and @hisohn, and shared https://t.co/8ljFP3JGHi. The capture does not provide eligibility criteria, a deadline, or funding terms; a reply included https://t.co/xcfm6zkXnG without explaining its destination.

On 2024-05-06, I argued that gaming is no longer just a hobby but a serious career option that deserves validation from parents and institutions. I said what worked in the last 20 years will likely not work in the next 20, and that interactive forms of entertainment are increasingly taking market share. I urged people to give the gaming industry the importance it deserves, tagging @8bit_thug, @hisohn, @jokim1, and @mittersain. This view connects gaming’s growing role with the shifting attention landscape.

On 2023-08-08, I suggested that interactive content may be the form that works in the coming decade, and saw esports as a possible investment opportunity rather than IPL teams or cricket. I said IPL teams cost as much as EPL football clubs at the time, and qualified my view that younger people seemed less enamoured with cricket than my generation as based on limited experience. I shared https://t.co/13AtdMOjOX.

In a reply about sports betting, I observed that making it harder to bet on a sporting event could remove the last feedback loop that triggers a chemical hit in our brains. I also asked whether anyone was building interesting things around esports or gaming in India; the captured post does not identify any builders or specific projects.

On 2023-07-12, I asked whether IPL valuations would go down if it became harder to bet on IPL. I did not say that betting had become harder or that valuations had changed.

In a later reply to the question about esports and gaming builders in India, I invited people to email me at nikhil@nksqr.com. The captured exchange does not say who responded.
