# News Stock Analyzer

I built News-Stock-Analyzer to investigate whether financial-news sentiment can help predict short-term stock performance. Its documented workflow combines news collection, sentiment analysis, market benchmarking, trading signals, and a Streamlit dashboard.

My News-Stock-Analyzer repository metadata is Python, 1 star; started 2026-03, last updated 2026-03.

My live demo is https://melonmusk20-news-stock-analyzer-srcapp-uul8tx.streamlit.app/.

The question driving my project is: Can financial news sentiment help predict short-term stock performance?

My technology stack is FinBERT (ProsusAI); Python; Pandas; yFinance; Streamlit; Streamlit Cloud; Git + GitHub.

My sentiment analysis classifies news as Positive, Neutral, or Negative; it generates sent_score, sent_label, and confidence.

My price integration downloads market-index data for ^GSPC / ^NSEI.

My price integration calculates a 1-day return; alpha is stock return minus index return.

My signal engine issues BUY when sentiment > 0.4 and mentions >= 2.

My signal engine issues AVOID when sentiment < -0.4.

My signal engine issues HOLD when neither the BUY nor AVOID condition applies.

My dashboard features are Stock selector; sentiment overview; alpha correlation; BUY / HOLD / AVOID signal output; clean professional UI.

My project structure lists data files news.csv, news_scored.csv, prices_stock.csv, prices_index.csv, and news_impact.csv; output images avg_alpha_bar.png and sentiment_vs_alpha.png; and src modules analysis.py, app.py, impact_join.py, main.py, prices.py, rss_fetch.py, sentiment.py, and signal.py.

```
git clone https://github.com/melonmusk20/News-Stock-Analyzer.git
cd News-Stock-Analyzer
pip install -r requirements.txt
streamlit run streamlit_app.py
```

The README provides no measured prediction accuracy, empirical answer to the research question, or alpha results, and it does not explain why the signal thresholds were chosen. Its setup command runs streamlit_app.py, while the listed src/ tree includes app.py but not streamlit_app.py; the documentation does not say whether streamlit_app.py exists elsewhere.

I pull stock-related news using Google RSS feeds.

My README includes the comment `<!-- test commit for n8n AI code reviewer workflow -->`.
