I left Beehiiv after three price hikes and built my own newsletter platform using AWS SES and MongoDB, costing less than $300 per year. The platform includes a campaign editor, web archives, an API, and automated list cleanup, and it sends about 1.4 million emails annually at $0.16 per 1,000 emails, costing roughly $224 per year, while replacing the $400 per month Resend service.

I left Beehiiv because they raised prices for the 3rd time in 2 years.

My first yearly bill was $1,000.

My future bill would have been $4,000.

Now I'm using AWS SES + MongoDB, and I will pay less than $300/year.

Newsletter platforms charge per subscriber, when in fact the real cost is the number of emails sent.

~1.4 million emails a year at $0.16 per 1,000 on AWS SES Essentials plan

I’m replacing Resend next. I love it, but it's very expensive ($400/mo).

In early October 2026 I launched three open‑source SaaS tools—DataFast, MailCheap, and a macOS mouse‑remap app—by prompting Opus 5.5 for a single request that produced a full app in five minutes. I shared the roll‑outs, pricing decisions, and community feedback on X (Twitter).

I wanted to remap the mouse buttons, so I asked Opus 5.5 to build me a macOS app. One prompt. 5 minutes.

MailCheap charges 💸 $0.10 per 1,000 emails, which is 92 % cheaper than Beehiiv for me.

My first yearly Beehiiv bill was $1,000, and the next renewal would have been $4,000.

Now I'm using AWS SES + MongoDB and will pay less than $300 per year for MailCheap.

android always review much faster than apple, so I published the Android version first.

I open‑sourced the mouse‑remap app 🫵🖱️ → https://t.co/mMBzJbTsC8.

These moves helped me rank 4th on @trust_mrr and demonstrated that AI‑driven, vibe‑coded development can replace weeks of manual coding with minutes of prompting.
