Ai Safety

Three fierce competitors agreeing on anything should make us pay attention.

We spent more time defining what ours should never do.

I publicly offered to help @bilalchughtai_ and @manbirmarwah with AI safety and security work on 2026‑09‑15 at 02:58 UTC.

I examine the policy dilemma of who should set AI safety speed limits after Dario Amodei, Sam Altman, and Elon Musk all agreed that AI development is outpacing evaluation, alignment, and security.

  • Adopt capability‑triggered rules → avoids penalising firms merely for being leaders; focuses on actual risk.

I propose a framework where rules trigger only when a model demonstrates dangerous capability, compliance is auditable by third parties, and standards curb hazardous behaviour without permanently freezing market leaders.

Rules should activate based on demonstrated capability, not company identity.

Compliance should be independently verifiable.

Safety standards should restrict dangerous behaviour without freezing today’s market leaders in place.

  • Require independent verification → prevents self‑reporting bias and ensures trust across borders.
  • Design standards that limit dangerous actions but allow normal market activity → balances safety with innovation, avoiding a freeze‑out of current leaders.
