Hiding Ambition Out Of Fear

From linkedin.com/in/gauravsaini03

In my post, I argue that fear of openly expressing ambition can lead people to disguise goals as hobbies or side projects. I connect that concealment to social-media comparison and urge people to say what they want and pursue it despite fear.

I wrote: Gen Z grew up being told to chase big, scary goals. And became the generation most afraid to admit they want anything at all.

I argued: The want is still there; they just learned to hide.

I described the concealment this way: The thing someone is quietly building their life around gets mentioned like a hobby. The goal they think about every day comes up as an afterthought.

I observed: People want things badly, and train themselves to look like they want them less. So nobody sees the real size of it.

I described openly expressing ambition as vulnerable: Because saying what you want, out loud, is one of the most exposing things you can do.

I argued that social-media feeds worsen comparison: The feed made it worse. The people living bigger than you are now in your hand all day. The richest, the fittest, the most successful. Caught on their best day, in their best light. Scrolling past with no end.

I wrote: Against that, having a goal starts to feel like being behind and admitting it means admitting how far you still have to go.

I described preemptive self-protection this way: So people learned to call their own dream a long shot first. To laugh at the gap before anyone else can.

I noted the perceived safety and its cost: It feels like control It feels safe. Right up until you notice the cost.

I made the central claim: Nothing you refuse to admit you want ever actually gets built.

I argued that success does not require being free of fear: The ones who make it are not the ones with less fear. They just said what they wanted out loud, and went after it anyway.

I closed by asking readers: What is the thing you have been calling a side project that you actually want badly?
