I developed Vision‑Assist, an assistive system for visually blind people, and host it as a public GitHub repository under my handle @Eshaj20.
The repository name is VisionAssist and it is written in Python.
Development started in February 2025 and the last update was in January 2026.
I chose YOLOv11 over YOLOv8 because it achieved 42 % mAP@0.5 compared with 38 % for YOLOv8 on the ExDark low‑light benchmark.
The system runs on a Raspberry Pi 4B (4 GB) with a Pi Camera V2, delivering 2–4 FPS and consuming 3.2 W @ 5 V.
The hardware integration uses an HC‑SR04 ultrasonic sensor mounted on an SG90 servo to provide distance and direction estimates, which the Python script src/main.py outputs as audio feedback.
