# Contexta Key Features

I chunk documents into 500‑character windows.

Each chunk overlaps the previous by 100 characters.

The backend serves NDJSON streams on port 6969.

Upload size is limited to 25 MB.

OCR processing caps at 25 pages.

OCR renders images at a width of 1800 pixels.

The OCR engine allows up to 12 000 000 render pixels per page.

I use the OpenAI model gpt-5.6-terra for generation.

The OpenAI model is limited to 4096 output tokens.

I also support Gemini model gemini-3.6-flash.

LLM calls timeout after 30000 ms.

My vector search index is named contexta_vector_index and uses cosine similarity over 384 dimensions.

These settings together give Contexta low‑latency, high‑quality semantic search while keeping costs under control.

I built Contexta, a submission‑ready semantic search and grounded‑answer platform that lets me upload PDFs, DOCXs and TXTs and retrieve passages with natural‑language queries.

I chunk documents into 500‑character windows with 100‑character overlap (20%).

I generate 384‑dimensional vector embeddings locally using @xenova/transformers.

I store vectors in MongoDB Atlas native `$vectorSearch` cosine similarity aggregations.

If the cloud index is unavailable, Contexta falls back gracefully to in‑memory cosine similarity and local disk embedding artifacts.

The ingestion pipeline runs a 5‑stage lifecycle in the background (`uploaded` → `extracting` → `chunking` → `embedding` → `indexing` → `ready`).

After validation and storage the API returns HTTP 201 immediately.
