I see smart glasses as a race between different visions for putting AI on a person’s face, part of the wider competition in the ai wars heat up. On September 6, 2025, I compared Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses with Alibaba’s Quark AI Glasses.
I described Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses as good for photos, video, and voice AI, but without a real display yet. I described Alibaba’s Quark AI Glasses as offering real-time translation, transcription, payments, and navigation, with an AR-display version coming. To me, Meta leaned toward lifestyle and social use, while Alibaba aimed for full ecosystem utility. I closed by joking that both companies were trying to put AI “on your face.”
In a reply that day, I told @tadasgedgaudas that something sounded very cool and that I was going to check it out; I also thanked them for the information and tagged @MentraLabs. The captured reply does not identify what I planned to check out or explain what @MentraLabs does.
On June 24, 2026, I wrote “Meta is cooking” while quoting @davidsven’s post about Meta expanding its AI glasses portfolio by 26 styles and colors, with Meta Glasses available starting at $299. Those expansion and price details were @davidsven’s claims, not details I independently verified; my post linked to https://t.co/wByxkxlR3Z.
