# Positioning Beats Product Complexity

I believe positioning can matter more than product complexity: the way a product is presented can change how people understand and respond to it. I see this in both a simple product example from Apple and my observations about tallow balms.

On May 11, 2025, I contrasted a technical description of the original iPod—a 6.5-ounce music player with a five-gigabyte drive—with Apple’s short line, “1,000 songs in your pocket.” The example shows how a concise, benefit-focused phrase can make a product’s appeal clearer than a list of specifications.

On March 6, 2026, replying to @ariesnotebook’s post titled “This $3M/Month Shopify Skincare Brand Is Scaling Insanely Fast,” I observed that most tallow balms are simple products made from beef tallow, essential oils, and a glass jar. I said some brands in the space were doing millions per month and took this as evidence that positioning can matter more than product complexity. The $3M/Month figure came from the other account’s headline, not from a claim I independently verified.

On April 24, 2026, I wrote that positioning is important and that the same product can have very different outcomes depending on its angle. I did not specify which positioning choices produce those outcomes or provide a measured example.
