I have raised questions and shared concerns about getting paid through Shopify, including processor alternatives, checkout tipping, and Shopify Payments payout holds. These posts record my questions and experiences, not a verified recommendation about payment providers or tax treatment.
On March 25, 2025, I asked which payment processor is best for Shopify stores when Shopify puts an account on hold, and invited others to share their opinions. I did not name a processor or endorse a particular alternative.
On May 21, 2025, I urged people to turn on Shopify tipping at checkout if they had not already, describing it as “Tax free income.” I did not explain the legal or tax basis for that characterization or establish whether the No Tax on Tips Act applied to Shopify checkout tips; the post I quoted about the Senate and the act was @unusual_whales’s claim.
On June 26, 2026, I asked @ShopifySupport to help with a 30% hold on our Shopify Payments payouts, saying that 30% was the entire operating margin for this one store. I said we had emailed repeatedly without a response and that the standard channels were not working, and asked for a human and advice on the right escalation path. The post records no response, explanation for the hold, or resolution.
