Consumer Spending And Debt

From x.com/ariesnotebook

I shared a Black Friday financing claim on December 2, 2025, alongside a quoted post by @adamscochran. The figures and economic assessment below were @adamscochran’s claims, not findings I independently established. The post presented them as evidence that consumers were weakening and the economy was unhealthy, but gave no data source, methodology, or definition of sales volume. This connects to my questions about reported Black Friday spending in black friday spending and inflation.

I wrote that 95% of sales volume was financed.

In the quoted breakdown, @adamscochran claimed that 67% of the financed volume was intended not to be paid off within 30 days, and that roughly $1B was spent using buy-now-pay-later (BNPL) models, which the post characterized as the worst debt. The capture does not explain how intent was measured or provide a basis for that characterization. It also leaves open what period and market the figures cover.
