Algorithms Mirror Your Engagement

From x.com/ariesnotebook

I think social feeds reflect what people engage with, shaping what they see and, collectively, what their feeds may say about the moment. This connects with my effort to reduce social media and screen time in reducing social media and screen time.

On April 15, 2025, replying to @ariesnotebook, I said I had been engaging with “them” more, so “it” made sense. The captured reply does not identify who or what I meant by “them” or “it.”

On September 19, 2025, I said that although people claim X shows only political content, my feed that week was focused on crypto, ecom, and investing. I attributed the difference to the algorithm showing people more of what they engage with, and said it did a good job of that for me. I suggested X wants people to stay on the platform.

On October 11, 2026, replying to @patrickc, I called the piece and its questions great and suggested that our collective “for you” feeds might reflect the national soul “these days,” for better or worse. This was my speculation, not a claim supported with evidence in the post.
