On 2021-11-24 at 16:28 UTC I recorded my intention to build a reference page that would serve as a reliable debugging resource for Apache Spark applications.

I intended to create a good reference page to debug Apache Spark applications.

I observed a major Cloudflare outage on 18 Nov 2025 that highlighted how a tiny configuration change can cascade into a global service disruption.

On November 18, 2025, Cloudflare experienced a widespread outage affecting thousands of websites and apps globally (X, Uber, OpenAI, Perplexity, Canva and even status monitoring portals like DownDetector).

The root cause was a change to a database system’s permissions.

That permission change caused the database to emit multiple entries into a feature file used by Bot Management, doubling the file size and propagating the oversized file to every machine in Cloudflare’s network.

Feature file size increased by 100 % (it doubled).
