Career Journey Into Venture Capital

From linkedin.com/in/aditya-singh-581bb813a

My mentors were Ishpreet Singh Gandhi; Abhinav Suri.

I will announce soon my next role in the startup ecosystem.

I spent 8 years at BookMyForex, the company where I entered the startup ecosystem.

The founding team includes Sudarshan Motwani, Nitin Motwani and Manik Varshney.

BookMyForex peaked at $100 cr GMV in 2016, with 100 % of it sourced from our website.

By 2022, Stride Ventures was one of India’s biggest venture‑debt funds.

All In Capital has backed over 50 companies as of 2022.

I quit Stride because I realised I didn’t enjoy venture debt as much, and I can’t succeed in something if I’m not enjoying every single minute of it.

The moment I knew I wanted to do VC was when I invested in MasterChow.

  • Founder team: Vidur Kataria, Sidhanth Madan, Radhika Mittal

I started at BookMyForex in 2012 (when there were barely ten seed VCs in India), saw an acquisition by MakeMyTrip, then spent 2017‑2020 working free with founders, took a BD role at Amazon’s startup program, later joined Stride Ventures (which “changed everything”), and now I’m at All In Capital backing founders with empathy and humility.

  • 2012: BookMyForex – early‑stage, ultra‑scarce VC ecosystem.
  • Post‑acquisition: restarted by meeting founders, working for free.
  • 2017: Amazon startup program BD role – “open a door”.
  • Stride Ventures: pivotal career shift.
  • All In Capital: philosophy “empathy and humility matter more than pedigree”.

I observed a surge of operators, angels, and creators launching funds in India and distilled four recurring challenges when moving from angel investing to running a formal fund.

  • Assumed angel flow would continue – it didn’t.

Talk to 3 fund managers before you set up your structure.

Ask them what they wish they knew before their first raise.

  • Operational brutality – compliance, reporting, and deal‑flow management are far from the romantic back‑the‑founder vibe.
  • LP management is a full‑time job.
  • Raising from LPs demands trust, consistency, and a clear thesis; first closes often take months longer than expected.
